- Make sure you are holding the "fn" key when you press an F-key. The fn key enables the function keys on a laptop and the aluminum keyboard. On laptops it can be found on the lower left of the keyboard next to the control key. On the aluminum keyboard it can be found to the right of the delete key.
- Laptop and aluminum keyboard users may turn off the use of the fn key. To do this, select System Preferences → Keyboard & Mouse. Select the Keyboard tab and check "Use all F1, F2, etc. keys as standard function keys" (exact wording may be vary based on the operating system version). This will allow you to simply press an F-key to trigger a hot key action in One Key. To use the F-keys to adjust the brightness, volume, etc hold down the fn key and press the desired key.
