Formatting commands can be applied to selected text or to selected topics; in the latter case they are applied to the entire text of the topic. Opal’s text formatting (styling) uses the Cocoa text system, and the text formatting features should be familiar from other Cocoa applications, such as TextEdit.
Note: How formatting is initially assigned to a topic when it is created depends upon your Font setting in Opal’s preferences.
Show/Hide Fonts. Toggles display of the Font palette. Choose a font, size, face, color, shadow, or other typographical feature to affect the selected material. There is a preference for setting the default font used for new outlines or new topics.
Bold. Toggles between a font’s regular and bold face.
Italic. Toggles between a font’s regular and italic (oblique) face.
Underline. Toggles between no underline and single underline. (Further underline options are available in the Font palette.)
Outline. Toggles Outline display of text.
Bigger. Increases the size of selected text.
Smaller. Decreases the size of selected text.
Kern. Adjusts the spacing between selected characters.
Ligature. Sets ligature usage, if the current font supports it. See also the ligature options in the Font palette’s Typography palette.
Baseline. Adjusts the vertical positioning of selected characters.
Show/Hide Colors. Toggles display of the Colors palette. Choose a color to change the color of the selected text. (To set the background color, choose View > Outline Info.)
Copy Style. Copies font and style information from the first character of the selected text onto the Cocoa Font clipboard, preparatory to pasting with Paste Style.
Paste Style. Imposes font and style information from the Cocoa Font clipboard (after Copy Style) onto the selected text.
Page Break. Marks the selected topic(s) to be preceded by a page break when printing.
