DPM Mapping
How To tune maps specially for DPM mod
1. Adding Start, Finish and Check points
In dpm2004beta4 (remember that the main file is dpm2003v08.u) Adding of these point became very easy. (Thx to Faust)
First, you have to make a map, of course. Then choose the place where you want the timer to start and click Right Mouse Button.
Choose option "Add Path Node Here".
After that a brown apple will be added to a place you clicked.
Switch this apple (it became green), press Right Mouse Button and chose "PathNode Properties" in a Pop-Up menu.
You need to set manually 4 options:
Advanced>bDirectional=True
Collision>CollisionHeight=
Collision>CollisionRadius=
Events>Tag=DPM2004_Start/DPM2004_Finish/DPM2004_CheckPoint0
*
make sure that different checkpoints names not the same
Check out given pictures (important lines are marked with
red):
Explanation:
Advanced>bDirectional=True - must point the rough direction of movement
Collision>CollisionHeight= - do not have to collide with the ground or ceiling
Collision>CollisionRadius=- do not have to collide with walls
Events>Tag=DPM2004_Start/DPM2004_Finish/DPM2004_CheckPoint0
NB: Note that you have to set collision radius and height as you need, not as stated in example pictures. Try to make all points radius and height covering zone you want player to touch.
2. LevelInfo And LevelSummary Properties. Adjusting Physic
When the map is done you need to fill the forms to make the map presentable.
Check out the shot below:
Important lines are marked with
red):
Explanations:
DefaultGameType - set it to DPM2004v01.DPM2004Game for creating rules of this map
PreCasheGame - set it to DPM2004v01.DPM2004Game for testing it under dpm mode, when testing map by starting it from the UnrealEd
Author - Place Your Name here :)
Description - all maps need descriptions
ExtraInfo(
new!) - If your map requires ut2003Style Physic, type there "UT2003Style". Else leave it blank
Screenshot - Slide-show can guide players through the run of your map. Try to select not more than 3 keypoints of your map
TitleName - Name of your Map
PS: Try not to overload your maps with different StaticMeshes to prevent big size of maps.
Ideal size 3-7Mb
But if you are 100% sure that the map needs every extra Mb - take your choice.
